Tropical by Mairi bheag as read by Mel

Hi everyone,

here is another recital of a beautiful poem by Mairi bheag, called Tropical.

Let me know what you think. The file is in windows media audio.

I hope you like it and that I did this poem justice.

Hugs,

Mel Cool

Tropical

The sand, so white in stretching to that far spit
Dazzles to be looked at, and the sun's heat
Beats down, softened only by the palms' shade,
And by the ozone breezes from away offshore.
Birds call, raucous, but a few only from the trees,
Each cry reminding us that this is paradise.
We have walked, hand-in-hand, from people
From talk, from music, from being overlooked,
A far and long hour together, silent, smiling,
Complete in comfort, coupled by our hearts,
Two women in an ocean-side, innocent Eden,

Emboldened by the solitude, I tug your hand,
I lead you to the shade-line trees as if to hide,
But who is there to see us here, alone, in love?
You lean back against a tree, look into my face,
A kind of question in your eyes, a kind of doubt.
Darling, did you really think we came this far,
With no intent of being in each other's arms?
My hand's behind your head, insisting on a kiss,
Moving our faces closer, anticipating tenderness,
Sweet breath upon the sea-breeze, flowers,
Honey-soft lips, tentative as if first-time-tried;
But yet, it is indeed our first kiss in paradise.

And such a kiss! Such gentle savagery in it!
Hunger softly satisfied, thirst quenched in quiet,
Tongue engaging tongue in lingering contention,
Stopping, then letting happen, the testing of lips,
Licking teeth, longing to find rough cheek-insides.
Oh now you pull me to you, now you feel with me
The same passion, the same utter wanting,
The same years-neglect of waiting for a lover,
The same ache to jettison bitter loneliness,
The same need to be with a precious, only one,
The same breathlessness, the same heart-race,
The same salmon-like leaping of falls-up love!

Oh to try you and to taste you, all your lush fruit,
Oh you forbidden, darling, essential woman-tree,
Your leg slips from your sarong, rubs on mine,
And the mist of your inner sap suffuses the air.
Your apple-smooth, apple-sweet sex is mine,
As are those breasts, oh goddess-image, mine!
And believe me, mine are yours, touch for touch,
Kiss for kiss, delving tongue and finger for the same!
Let us fall on your fallen sarong, and, safe from sand,
Press ourselves together, closer, closer still, oh you!
Move upon each other until the tree-line shakes,
Breeze-like shivers as we come and come and come!

And lie with me now, my quiet darling, in paradise.
There is time, we have forever if we have a day.
There will be time to rise again and walk, but now
Which way shall we go? Back towards the world?
Or will you hazard with me - onwards, sunsetwards -
Into infinity, trusting our new paradise, Eve and Eve?

Mel's recital helped me catch hidden glances of this paradise which Mairi wrote about.... As a result, I felt I was there in this Eden.. senses all awakened by Mairi's great gift... I could hear the sighs, smell the breeze and "the mist of the inner sap suffuses the air" ...feel the sun's heat ....the sand against my footsteps....taste the "apple-smooth, apple-sweet sex" and the "gentle savagery" ...and above all see Mairi's Eden...

I congratulate you both-great idea.
