Blackbird, by Ellis

I’ve been caught in this way of thinking
What I need is a change in the air I’ve been breathing

I drove a hundred miles an hour down the mountainside
I felt like a superhuman I felt like I could fly
I had a plane to catch I had my seatbelt on
But that wouldn’t have kept me safe if I’d fallen off

I’ve got rolls of tape stuck up in my head
Got the wrong words mixed up in the things I said
But I meant the kindness and I meant holding you
We can be the ocean so much bigger than this view

I’ve been caught in this way of thinking
What I need is a change in the air I’ve been breathing

Even the waves have their sights set on heaven
Falling down they will pray
Long after the sun is beneath them

I am my own blackbird I can’t see at night
And I’ve got tunnel vision when I’m in broad daylight
I am on a hilltop and I am rolling down
Sooner or later I will arrive on solid ground

I’ve been caught in this way of thinking
What I need is a change in the air
Am I lost or is this just a part of healing
Can I trust every breath will be there
