After the breakup

I wanted to be so casual last night
I wanted the whole room to see
That the pain you had caused me was nowhere in sight
I was fine, I was cool, I was free

I dressed with ever so slightly more care
Than I usually bother to do
Ironed the pants, matched the top and gelled up my hair
For this first time that I would see you

Since the night you coldly turned off the charm
And ever so calmly just said
That you never intended to cause me this harm
In the darkness and quiet of your bed

You sat in the corner, your usual spot
With a chair backed up to the wall
And my treacherous heart whispered ‘God, she looks hot’
Didn’t see that one coming at all

With pasted-on smile I wandered your way
My courage screwed up to the max
‘How are you, yes I’m well,’ now there’s no more to say
Back to friends, part of me can relax

Time to be leaving and there by the door
You stand with your arms open wide
My breath is suspended and hurt is no more
For those seconds I stand there inside

If it’s sorrow you felt as you held me
That’s tough, for now I am stronger
The first time was hard but the next will be easy
Girl, you’re not going to hurt me much longer

I so enjoy your writings.
I could picture this evening that you had. You're a better woman than I.
I never would have gone over to her, she'd have to come to me. And,
I never would have permitted her to embrace me, never, Do I sound
angry? lol

Nobody ever wants to be in this position, I'm pretty sure it's made agorophobics out of a few people in the world. But it sounds like you handled it like a pro with dignity and poise. Something most people would never be able to pull off. Hold your head high sister Exclamation

I'm glad you enjoy my stuff Mdm, I never think of it as really 'writing' more as processing.

Love you comment about becoming an agrophobic to avoid such situations Brach Very Happy This is a monthly event and I have to admit being grateful that the January night was cancelled, it gave me about 8 weeks to get myself together before seeing her again. But I still probably wouldnt have managed it without a good friend who encouraged/forced me to make the first move. I dont know about dignity LOL, like Mdm said I should never have let her embrace me, but it's done and time to move forward.
