Now children behave, listen so I might teach.
You see skiing is easy, in every ones reach.
My little rascals, keep quiet, follow my lead.
We will take it slow until we all succeed.
Gliding in a line, like a snake we flow,
Down the slight slope, enjoying the snow.
Well down my braves, all deserve praise!
Your eagerness never ceases to amaze.
After hours of practise, learning to glide,
I take my little class for a warning aside.
This is important for you all to know,
demonstrating now and taking it slow.
When caught on the edge nowhere to go,
start skiing backwards, keep looking though!
Your ski’s in the back are just plainly flat,
cut in the snow, you ‘ll get stuck like that.
While showing the kids how it is done,
explaining, not looking where my ski’s run,
all of a sudden stop gliding, buried so deep,
on the edge of the track, a huge snow heap.
My feet standing still the rest continue to glide,
I tumble backwards, my body suddenly hides,
entombed in the snow, my head on my knees,
my behind dug a hole, body followed with ease.
The only thing remaining from the teacher in sight,
the tip of her skies, her feet , a cap red bright,
The children gasped, frozen, until they heard,
a burst of laughter from a hole, caught, absurd!
With all them helping, she was quickly set free,
proving her point for the whole class to see.
“Keep Looking!”

Noni, Angel,
pssst, I 'll let you in on a secret.
This is a true story.
I was very lucky that it happened in an pre-digital camera- infestation - era. *sigh of relief* To be caught on camera in that position...
It took twenty minutes to get me out of the snow. It left me with a frozen behind (for 10 minutes luckely ) and the kids mocked me for a very very long time.
They kept imitating my arm motions when I walked by and then my laugh.
It made me giggle each time they did that.
But ... none of them ever fell while skiing backwards
Lesson Learned indeed.
Thanks for taking the time to post what you thought of it. Was my first 'poem' not in Dutch. I could post my poems in my language but ...
