In the Airs
Through soft and smooth in the airs of breath and the aching design
of you gently trembling like tree limbs in midwinter
I pause in the airs of your smile, your conversation
Like warm gasps forming into a cloud of Zephyr
Against the coldness pressing against you and I
The smooth copper entrails that curve about your cheek
And your eyes holding back in the airs of you
Pulling me back into Brigid’s poetic embrace
Through your smile, your conversation, all that is indirect and chanced.
In the airs of you, my breath becomes weaker in the cold midnight
My pulse wildly beating with the innocence and simplicity
The intellect, the hand pressing into mine brushing my fingers
I remember what love used to be
And your eyes… are they gray or green at this moment
In the airs of being you kiss my cheek and I am elevated once more
By you being you. _________________ “It would be a pity of lesbians and gay men retreated into the same kind of cultural separatism. " - Jeanette Winterson
