Drowning

I had dived into the depths
Of your ocean-fresh, inviting kiss
Without first checking the swell report
Now buffeted by unexpected waves
I’m treading water and signalling for help

Your lips have barely grazed mine
Hardly more than a wet whisper of touch
From a dolphin slipping by seawards
Yet I’m seared like a hot tar caulking brush
Freshly removed from the coals

And like a foolhardy surfer
Plucked from her board by a monster wave
I tumble, without knowing which way is up
And drowning, clutch at the nearest rescue rings
Soft tendrils of hair at the nape of your neck

That most basic of instincts
Survival, keeps me kicking toward the light
But unlike a vampire whose feeding only takes
This kiss exchanges your air for mine
And we buddy-breath till finally breaking the surface

Pushing up from the shoreline
Of your couch, my feet touch solid ground
Yet, even exchanging awkward rescuer/victim hugs I know
We’ll go swimming in your liquid kiss again
But maybe next time I’ll wear a life jacket!

Sounds promising...though in real life, flotation devices offer about as much protection from a good kiss as cement blocks keep one from drowning. Nevertheless, you make it sound worth dying for Exclamation

Wow, it sounds like you barely survived one heck of a kiss! Kiss #2 should be a real humdinger.
This is very well written, MG.

I agree with you about those flotation devices Brach, there is NO protection from a good kiss except not to repeat it LOL

See my comment to Brach, Mdm....a kiss like the first for No. 2 and I would be going down for the third time!
