 		Sometimes our love is like a tree

 Sometimes our love is like a tree
A magnificent tree, a sturdy tree
Standing tall and strong in the forest
Extending branches to the sunlight
Embracing every day
Strong, and firm, and infallible

Sometimes our love is like a tree
A tree caught in a river
In the rapids
Twisting and turning and moving downstream
Drowning in waters so deep and so wild
Until it stops
Caught against a rock, or river bed, and our love is firm again
Solid, secure, no wildness to move it

Sometimes our love is like a tree
A tree that has been cut down
And turned into a shelter
A sturdy shelter made by loving hands
And enduring decades of weather and wear

Sometimes our love is like a tree
A tree burned by a forest fire
A tree singed, no leaves left, no life apparent
But then blooms again
Stronger, much stronger than before
And wiser too

Sometimes our love is like a tree
But never, never
NEVER
A tree that goes through the wood chipper
And used for hamster bedding.
