Such bitter tears run down my face,
Tears of rejection, of shame, disgrace.
They burn my skin, penance of a sort,
Reminders of how I always fall short.
Never quite reaching that goal ahead,
Remaining with feet firmly planted instead.
Little quarters remain of the heart I once held.
So much light inside once contentedly dwelled.
Now just slivers of shadows, little flecks scattered within.
Dissolving so fast, as though they’d never been.
Leaving a trace, an imprint of the past.
A scar of reminder that will surely last.
I sought only to brighten this world while I’m here.
To bring lightness of heart to all that were near.
Not selfishly, not to gain commendation for my smile.
But to make burdens lighter, just for a while.
I wanted to be remembered with laughter and song,
Naïve, I suppose, doomed all along.
So many regrets, when I vowed to have none.
So many wars, and I’ve never won.
Seen as a victor, but left with the wounds.
Chasing my shadow, silencing solace’s tunes.
Light turned to darkness, it swallowed my flame.
From kindness and laughter, to sorrow and blame.
I will shift my path, alter my course.
Searching for peace from this endless remorse.
I have no ties, nothing left to lose,
Following the sunset’s red and golden hues.
A journey to find the place I once dreamed could be.
Where I could finally smile, and be accepted as me.

Wow, such a powerful piece! I miss your writing, however, I'm sorry
that it took this poem to express your hurt.
You make so many of us happy here, X. You are so positive and, altho, we haven't met, I bet when you walk into a room you light the place up.
