If i had known that it was our last kiss
i would have frozen that precious moment i will miss
i would have found a way to turn back time to such bliss
if i had only known it was our last kiss
i would have covered your face with tears that fall like mist
i would have told you that all the ways i love you i couldn't begin to list
if i had known i would never touch your heart
i would have surely run away from the very start
i would have said 'no' to my desire even though it was hard
i would have been less aware and more smart
if i had known i couldn't touch your heart
i would have stopped trying before this part
if i had said all the things you couldn't hear
it would have made it much worse i fear
it would have brought a greater sorrow very near
to have to say good bye to you my dear
if i had tried to win your love
maybe angels would have helped from above
i would have shown the innocence of love doves
instead i tried to become the hand to your glove
the fit seemed tight but not enough to win your love right
if i had known it was our last kiss
i wonder if i would still have taken the risk
if only i had known it was our last kiss _________________ StarGazer

Beth,
I do so love you to bits as well as your poetry -- this one is very beautiful, but once I saw the format and the simplicity of its language, I'm sorry to say I was a tad disappointed, but it makes me able to look at what you're trying to say even further outside of the rhyme. The desperation seems shallow in the way of language but in between the lines, it's like a very strong person with weakness struggling not to show. At least that's my opinion, and I know you respect mine and I yours.
Keep posting, sugar!

Ah but we never do know, do we? And it is that very uncertainty that makes it all the more precious, and maddening.
