the trouble with girlfriends

such sweet girls, in the meadow
where I brushed
her skin
with petals,

where she let go
of my hand
and left me
in the lengthening shadows,

in the dampening
woods, inhaling
the fragrances
of succulents

sweating in the shade,
no bees hum, what mean girls,
mud-dauber wasps,
brutal with

self-insistence,
sting and sting
and cannot die,
it takes a while to grow up,

to not care what one's called
as long as it's your voice calling,
tonguing
into my ear, the sigh,

I'll call you
when they're sleeping,
yes, i know,
me too, tonight

oo, I love tossing my shovel over the wrought iron fence at the poetry graveyard, then clambering over it myself to find buried gems like this one.
