PREMONITION

Voorgevoel (1 Februarie 1984)

die skemer daal nou oranje en rooi
______ oor ‘n pers sierpruim
______ monochromaties bleek
en ek verlang
______ met hoendervleisvel
______ na Athena
“in die stegies van ‘n ou stad”

(Nie dat ek Athena ooit geken het nie
______ dis net so vaagduidelik
______ soos die sikloop vir my
by elke verwysing na Fortuna..)

.....with the usual imperfect translation below....

Premonition (1 February 1984)

Dusk falls in orange and red
______ across a purple plum
______ monochromatic pale
and I feel a longing
______ with goosebump-skin
______ for Athena
“in the narrow streets of an old city”

(Not that I ever knew Athena
______ it is just as clearly vague
______ as the Cyclops
with every reference to Fortuna…)

(Found this poem among old stuff on Sunday, and my heart turned cold, as I wrote it one day after I had a strange dream, and realised that the date on which I wrote it was exactly to the day ten years before I was in a car accident, in which I lost my right eye.....)

Real,

I find a different assocation from the poem and the experience, and like other readers I enjoy what association the writer has for the poem, so thanks for sharing that. I liked the poem.

Dance,
Thanks for reading and I am honoured that you liked it!
And yes - when I wrote it originally, it had a completely different meaning: the Goddess of Love, and the luck and good fortune associated with finding that love, and how blind we sometimes are when it is staring us in the face.

I would love to hear what meaning you read into it!!

Labrys - thanks for reading!!

(and apologies for responding only now - i must have overlooked this one)

real Very Happy

(((((((((((((((((real)))))))))))))))))

I am struck by the poem and probably put my own meaning to it. What I took from it gave me peace and hope.

I am so very glad you stayed with us to teach us through your life experience.

Sending you peace and love,

Sue

(((((((((((((((((SUE))))))))))))))))))))))

You are more than welcome to put your own meanin to it... that is what I love about poetry - it means different things for different people, and I am glad that one I created so many years ago still has meaning, and still can give peace and hope!!

The most important thing that i have learned, throught that experience, is that it does not really matter what you do, as lon as what you do is making a difference to the world we live in ... and I am grateful for having that opportunity!!

Love and Peace to you and yours too

R
