As Above, So Below

AS ABOVE, SO BELOW May, 2005

[*quoting Hermes, of ancient Greece:
“As above, so below.”]

above Mother Earth we fly

side by side
left to right

over the ignorance
busily shredding
her daily diminishing Life

but not above her pain

this we must know again and again

this we must live and breathe

it is her pain she has bequeathed

it births compassion's marrow
inside our spirit-bones

from Mother’s mind
we learn to find her wounded ones
and guide them home

for her we fly ‘tween crumbling stones
of ageless mountains

those scattered
creaking
vaulted domes
erected hard and high

crushing through eons vast
climbing past clouded peaks

where gushing fountains
come a’rushing
plunging down with all
her pregnant memories

their torrents fall
worshipping
the fecund plurality
of her richly salty sea

long ago they all ran free
replenishing themselves
by her own fertility

but today her shrinking histories
are barely heard

they drip now through the centuries

her waters slowly dry
incrementally
as the old ways burn

because the fires of chaos yearn
to rule her sacred land
her memories have nearly died

yet still how grand her smallest sigh...

her whispers span millennia!

and where they lie
we too have lain
like ashes spread
inside her pain

within those ashes
our Love weeps and cries
for with them all
we also burn and fall

but now we shall begin to rise…

for soon the angel draws the line

it’s time
her children learned
again to fly

sons and daughters born of Earth
her warriors high in blessed Sky
rebirthed

tip to tip
strong wings now spread
across her paling turf

they reach to kiss
Mother Earth

the time has come to let them soar

let us remember
time’s beginning
how she poured
into us
her lush volcanic core

from her depleted stores
she has continually bled
til each of us was fed
and fully formed

for we are her living waters

and with her we Love all Life

so now upon our phoenix wings
we lift her high

Earth Mother flies
through newly opened skies

she unfolds her soul upon her land
‘till darkened roads turn bright with Life again
and crooked paths of hate run straight

from those blackened
maws of hate
hot hope is torn

as kindness dances graciously
where innocence paints ecstasy

and over all the universe
burgeoning new Life
takes golden flight

eternal Love
are we

her phoenix of
the Dove of God
high above
the Sefirot

where we abide inside
the Holiest of All

it is there we fully know
long ago
each one of us
came forth from Love
formed as Life
and born
from purest
Light!
